

She was born on April 1, 1937 in Quincy, Adams Co., IL, the daughter of Robert Earl and Alleen Marie Jackson Simmons. She married Donald D. Slocum, son Robert Franklin and Louise Fingerlin Slocum, in Quincy, IL on May 31, 1958. He survives.
She graduated from Quincy High School, Quincy, IL in 1955 and the Gem City Business College, Quincy, IL in 1956. Upon graduation she accepted a position with H.G. Garrelts & Sons, Quincy, IL. Barbara was a homemaker but later worked for the American Lung Association, SYSCO Corporation and INTERFAITH of The Woodlands where she was named “Woman Of The Year”. She was a charter member of Living Word Lutheran Church, The Woodlands, TX. Interests included collecting Precious Moments, gardening, traveling, genealogy and stamping cards.
Survivors in addition to her husband are two children, Tami and her husband Dennis McNair, Conroe, TX; Steve Slocum and his wife Allison, Oak Ridge North, TX; a granddaughter, Madison Slocum, Oak Ridge North, TX; a brother, Earl Simmons and his wife Bobbie, Bowie, MD, and two nieces.
Funeral Services are set for 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 28, 2010 at Living Word Lutheran Church, 9500 N. Panther Creek Dr., The Woodlands, TX, 77381 with Rev. Dr. Alfonso O. Espinosa and Rev. Jeffrey W. Ware officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 o’clock until 5 o’clock on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home.
