

Charles Gonzalo Alvarez, born on November 8, 1929, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 96. He was a resident of Conroe, Texas. Charles was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 8, 1929 to parents Julio and Francisca Solis Alvarez.
Charles served his country in the United States Marine Corps from December 1946 to December 1949, following World War II. He took great pride in his service to our country and in being a United States Marine.
He married his beloved wife Maria Gutierrez Alvarez on February 12, 1950. Together, Maria and Charles raised their daughters, Yolanda and Irene, in a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. At the time of her passing, Maria and Charles had shared 65 beautiful years together—a true testament to a lifetime of love, commitment, and devotion.
A true jack of all trades, Charles worked for Texaco, owned and operated his own gas station and body shop, sold produce, and later worked at Walmart and the Conroe Independent School District. There was nothing he couldn’t do. Faithful to his Catholic beliefs, Charles was a proud and devoted member of St. Simon and Jude Catholic Parish. He also had a passion for gardening, fishing, and going to the beach.
Charles is survived by his daughters Yolanda Alvarez Barcenas and Irene Alvarez Delira; grandchildren Michelle Owen (Chris), Charles Delira (Courtney), Kristin Thuer (John), Maria Delira, Melissa Barcenas Luna (Eric), and Angelia Barcenas Galicia (Beto); Great Grandchildren Samantha Smith, Daniel Smith (Brittany), Kylie Delira, Elijah Delira, Charlie Elizabeth Delira, Julia Gracia Delira, Jorge Gracia Delira, Julisa Gracia Delira, Judith Gracia Delira, Christian Luna, Olivia Galicia, Matthew Galicia, and Eugene Rieves; Great Great Grandchildren Xavier Ross, Daniel Smith II, Zoey Smith, Vivian Smith, and Sofia Smith.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Julio and Francisca Solis Alvarez; brothers Julio Alvarez, Carlos Alvarez, Antonio Alvarez, Benigno Alvarez; sister Mary Lou Alvarez Ramos; and Son-in-Law Rafael Delira.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Parish, located at 26777 Glen Loch Dr, The Woodlands, TX, 77381, on January 27, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX, 77038, on January 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
