Christopher Allen Stratton of Houston, Texas went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2023. He was 55 years old. He is remembered as a man of God, a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving son, a loyal friend, and a dedicated colleague.
Chris was proud to be a first-generation college student. He worked three jobs to put himself through college at Baylor University, where he earned a degree in Accounting. A self-proclaimed “serial entrepreneur,” he started his first company in college with a fraternity brother. Later, he sold this business to attend Rice University where he earned his Masters in Business Administration. He was passionate about creating a better future for his family and believed in the transformative power of education.
Chris was most proud of the time he spent as a Board Member for Generation One and as a baseball manager for his son’s teams. He had a passion for coaching and mentorship. He found joy in being called “Coach Chris” for nearly a decade. Several of his former players went on to become first generation college students like Chris once was, using baseball as a platform to help make this a reality. At Generation One, he served on the Board of Directors for four years as Treasurer, helping to create an equitable education landscape. The effects of his generosity will be felt for generations.
Chris’s children remember him as a hero: kind, generous, and fiercely loyal. They are lucky to each have happy last memories with their father.
Christopher was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Garrett. Christopher loved and admired him, affectionately calling him “Pops.”
He is survived by his wife, Victoria Garrett Stratton; their children Christina Marie and Garrett Robert; his parent’s Robert and Norma Jean Stratton; his mother-in-law, Christel Barbara Garrett; his younger brother, James Tracy Stratton; and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Garrett Curtin. He cared deeply about his family and they will miss him intensely.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Generation One in his name. Chris attended his last board meeting hours before his death. Your donation would mean a lot to the family as they desire to honor his legacy and continue supporting a cause that he so proudly championed.
