A generous and giving man, Chuck was quick to offer a helping hand to those in need. He was a warm and loving husband, father and grandfather, fondly referred to as “Pop.”
Born September 18,1944 in Long Beach, California to Charles and Eileen Winter, Chuck grew up in the Golden State. A sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1969-72, he served in Vietnam and was a recipient of the Bronze Star medal. In 1970, he married his sweetheart, Judy Ritchey, and the couple settled in Dallas, Texas. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1983 to be near family. There, he enjoyed fishing and beachcombing along the Padre Island National Seashore. Chuck retired in 2006 after a 33-year career with AT&T. In 2010, Chuck and Judy moved to Spring to share in the lives of their son, daughter-in-law and young grandson.
Chuck loved the water. An avid boater, he also enjoyed waterskiing, fishing, tubing and camping. His passion, though, was scuba diving and exploring the wonders of the deep. His love of diving took him on numerous excursions to the Caribbean, Mexico and South America.
A student of history, Chuck loved exploring historical monuments and landmarks. He was a voracious reader, preferring mystery and science fiction novels. He also had a soft spot in his heart for cats and frequently fostered stray and abandoned kittens until homes could be found for them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, of Spring, Texas; his son, Charles, his daughter-in-law, Gina, and his grandson, Gavin, of The Woodlands, Texas.
Friends are invited to remember Chuck on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Forest Park - The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to the Eternal Reef Memorial, 3410 Todville Road, Seabrook, Texas 77586, are encouraged.
