

He was born to Omar and Helen Bunnell on July 1, 1933 in Wellington, UT. He grew up in Price, UT., graduating from Carbon High School in 1951 and joining the USMC Reserves in 1952. A knee injury disqualified him from service and he was honorably discharged. He attended the College of Eastern Utah, graduating in 1953 with an associate’s degree in science. In 1997 he was honored as an outstanding alumni by CEU. In 1955 he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He met Martha Daschmann Lacayo at the university in the summer of 1955 and married her as quickly possible on March 3, 1956.
He was active in music, drama and football during his high school and college years. During his professional career he was a member of the Jaycees and a board member of Pony League Youth Baseball. He was a member of The LDS Church.
He started work at Bunnell's Garage in 1945 doing odd jobs for 10 cents/hr. In 1947, at the age of 13, he was cited for operating a tow truck without a license and was fined $2. He worked for Utah Oil to help pay his way through university. Upon graduation in 1955, he started his engineering career with Shell Chemical Co. in California, which took him through various technical, managerial and operational assignments in California, Ohio, New York, Louisiana and Texas. In 1985 he accepted a distillation research position with Fractionation Research Inc. He retired from Shell Oil in 1994 to devote his energy to his family and to pursue other interests including carpentry, chess, gardening, history and poetry.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; his two children Franz (Cheryl) and Cecilia Bunnell; two grandchildren, Zack and Tiffany Bunnell; two sisters, Mary Helen Powell, Price, Ann (William) Mathis, Sandy; and brother, Steven (Karyn), West Valley.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Mar 22, 2:00 p.m., at Forest Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, TX 77384. Friends may visit Thursday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Forest Park Funeral Home.
