After graduating from Corpus Christi High School in 1950, he attended Del Mar College and then joined the U.S. Navy. After discharge, he was employed for 45 years at the Texas Dept. of Public Transportation in Corpus Christi, TX and retired to Conroe, TX.
He joined Independence Masonic Lodge 1337 in Corpus Christi as a young man and eventually became Past Master and held a Life Membership. He was also a very active member of Tarkington Prairie Masonic Lodge in Cleveland, TX where he followed his great grandfather and great-great grandfather as Past Masters. He also was an Endowed member of that lodge. His memberships also include Affiliated P.M. of Conroe Lodge; Tranquility Lodge; 32 Degree Mason of San Antonio Consistory of Scottish Rite of Free Masonary; Noble of Al Amin Shrine, Corpus Christi, TX.; District Deputy Grand Master, District 27, 2003; Golden Trowel Award; and Retired State Employees Assoc.
Eddie also enjoyed working with UMYF teens at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi for several years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jeanne; daughter Brenda Vines and husband Lee; two precious granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsey Vines; brother Charles Matthews and wife Millie; niece Amy Armstrong and husband Brandon.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated nurses and doctors who treated him so diligently at the ICU of Conroe Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, TX 77384. A Masonic Graveside is set for 3:00 P.M., Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery.
