Evelyn Joyce Lightfoot, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Evelyn was born on December 29, 1933 in Canton, Ohio to Lester and Grace Teel. As a young girl, Evelyn enjoyed time outdoors near her home on Lawn Avenue in Canton.
Ebby, as she was affectionately called, married her lifelong partner, Edwin Eugene Lightfoot, on October 5, 1956 in Angola, Indiana. Shortly after their marriage, Evelyn and Ed moved to Houston and spent sixty-two precious years together as husband and wife and were the proud parents of two children, Linda and Gene.
While working as a housewife and as a devoted mother to her two children, Evelyn found time to volunteer for 30 years at Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston. Evelyn enjoyed traveling with Ed and her children as well as sewing, quilting, and cooking for her family. She was a master at creating beautiful ceramics for every holiday as cherished keepsakes not only for her home, but also for her children.
Evelyn always decorated her home for every holiday, and she loved to bake Christmas goodies every year for her family and for her neighbors and friends. Entertaining came naturally to Evelyn as she and Ed often welcomed Ed’s customers and business associates to dinner and get togethers at their home. She also loved to hold an annual Christmas party for her neighbors, as well as special birthday parties for Linda and Gene. Evelyn enjoyed watching the Astros and the Rockets and of course, Ed’s alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, and she was a friend to whoever she met.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Grace Teel, her brothers and sisters, her granddaughter, Dani Lightfoot, her daughter-in-law, Cyndi Lightfoot, her husband, Ed Lightfoot, and her son, Gene Lightfoot.
Evelyn leaves behind her daughter, Linda Lightfoot Hoppas and five grandsons, Gregory Hoppas, Jeffrey Hoppas, Jeremy Hoppas, Stephen Lightfoot and Mitchell Lightfoot as well as Stephen’s spouse, Amy Lightfoot, Gregory’s spouse, Lina Nunez, and Jeffrey’s spouse, Audrey Hoppas. Evelyn is also survived by six great-grandchildren, David Nunez, Elysiah Hoppas, Taliyah Hoppas, Levi Hoppas, Railey Whitten and Mila Kay Lightfoot.
