He was born in Springfield, TN on March 21, 1938 and was the youngest of two children. Jim Graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1956 and was a proud Marine veteran.
He was a true example of someone who achieved the American Dream. Raised in Greenbrier, Tennessee to a poor family that made their living as tobacco sharecroppers. Jim joined the Marines in 1956 and after leaving the military made his way to Houston. Jim started in the ditto (copy) room at The JP Harle Group and worked his way up through the company to ultimately become Chief Financial Officer. He purchased controlling interest in the firm and would go on to merge with Swiss based Panalpina World Transport to form one of the largest Freight Forwarding companies in the world today with over 14,000 employees.
Jim’s number one passion was his family, (children, grandchildren, and all relations), his friends and the game of golf. He was a member of the River Plantation Country Club and was President of the men’s golf association for many years. He loved spending time with his golf buddies and the comradery and competition that came with their regular games. Outside of golf he loved his grandchildren and spent many nights and weekends watching baseball games and cheerleading. His grandchildren brought him so much joy in his life and he loved them dearly and they adored their “Pawpaw.” Jim was also a terrific dancer and appeared on the televised dance programs numerous times over the years.
Jim is proceeded in death by his parents, Joe and Lottie Edwards, and daughter Kimberly Edwards Henderson. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amy Edwards; grandchildren, Chase, Dylan, Paige, Devin, Ashton and Alyssa; sister and brother-in-law Jim and Shirley Orand, his former wife Shirley Edwards and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and close friends.
Rest in Peace Pawpaw. We love you dearly and you will be greatly missed.
