James, AKA Jim, was born on September 17, 1954 to Agnes Euphemia and Alexander Piggott in Paisley, Scotland. The family moved to Dun Laoghaire, Ireland in 1964 where his father established a career as an Engineer for Guiness.
Jim spent his childhood kicking ball, swimming, and fishing in the Irish Sea, and looking after his brother John and two sisters Mara and Mandy, a typical happy childhood. He graduated from High School Dublin in 1972 before moving on to eventually obtain a Ph.D. in Genetics from Trinity College, Dublin in 1983.
While working towards his Ph.D., he met and fell in love with the lovely Gill and her son, Justin. Gill and Jim married in 1981 in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. The couple went on to welcome three daughters into the world and created many happy memories together building a life in America.
Dr. Piggott began his career in Genetics after graduation and throughout the years, the family moved from Ireland, to England, to Seattle, and eventually The Woodlands, TX. while Jim worked to improve the world through scientific progress.
Jim was known by many colleagues, friends, golf partners, and family members as a brilliant scientist whose ethical beliefs were always black and white. The man had such an extensive vocabulary his mother often needed a dictionary handy to fully understand a few words in his letters home. Jim always believed in doing the right thing for others no matter what the cost - through and through, Jim was an example of a truly selfless human. You could trust him with any secret, laugh with him during any conversation, and go to Jim for advice on any topic and expect a witty and insightful perspective. You would leave this sweet man a smarter and more compassionate person because he wore his heart of gold on his sleeve even though he worked diligently to keep his heart hidden from others.
Jim is survived by his spouse, Gill Piggott; children, Justin Craig and Erika Malone, Jenny and Danny Veksler, Mara Piggott and Tom Coffey, and Suzie Piggott and Scott Lanning; grandchildren, Natalie, Jeremy, Lillie, and Vivie Veksler, and Lucian Coffey; father, Alexander Piggott; siblings, John and Geri Piggott, Mara and Phil Hawkins, and Mandy Piggott; his nephew, Alexander Piggott, and his niece, Annie Hawkins.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Piggott.
A cremation will take place in the Woodlands, TX., and a scattering of ashes followed by a celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date in Ireland.
Forest Park-The Woodlands Funeral Home is honored to serve this family.
