Jane Elizabeth (Rust) Minor, age 79, of Montgomery, TX, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2022. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, June 12, 1942, she was the youngest of three daughters of Carl and Jane Rust. Her family lived on the Elizabeth River, across from the Norfolk Naval Yard where her father worked during World War II. The name of the river inspired Jane’s middle name.
Her family moved to Springfield, MO when Jane was 5 years old. All of Jane’s education, from elementary school through high school was completed in Springfield. While attending college at Southwest Missouri State, she met her future husband, Howard Minor. After Howard graduated from college, he entered the Army and was stationed in Fort Belvoir, VA. Jane joined him and they were married in a small, white chapel on the military base, April 6, 1962. They had two children and enjoyed 59 loving years of marriage. Jane spent many years working as an office administrator, enjoying the many challenges she encountered in her work.
Jane loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed social activities where she played bunco, games, luncheons, and book club. She loved traveling and made it to all 50 states and other countries. She loved cooking and trying new recipes, reading, sewing, and gardening. One hobby Jane and Howard enjoyed together was astronomy. Jane had her own telescope and became an astronomical observer of many objects in the sky.
Church played an important role in Jane’s life. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Orange and was currently a member of The Woodlands UMC. She loved going to Sunday services, participating in bible studies, and other church activities. She definitely had a heart to serve. In Orange, she spent many years volunteering with the Service League. She regularly participated in the Craft Circle group at the main Woodlands UMC Campus, where she sewed items the group would sell to raise money for missions. She provided guidance when the Craft Circle group formed at The Church at Woodforest. Wherever she served, Jane was always happy to take a leadership position.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Howard Minor; sister, Nancy Casey; children, Terry George and her husband Lance, and Bryan Minor; grandchildren, Amanda Hallmark and her husband Chad, Derek George, Carley Minor and Taylor Minor.
