She was born March 28, 1920, in Kingston, TX, to Leon and Norma (Meeks) Norris. After spending her earliest years in Leesville, LA, she moved to Childress, TX, at the age of nine. She attended East Texas State Teachers College, graduating in 1941 with majors in English, French and bookkeeping. While at East Texas, she met W.E. (Bud) Treadway; they married September 27, 1942. During WWII, she worked as a bookkeeper in South Bend, IN, while Bud was overseas. After the War, they returned to Greenville to raise a family and be part of his family business.
She was an active member of the Junior Pallas Club, the PTA, the 39’ers Dance Club, and various bridge, supper, book, and garden clubs in Greenville and later in San Antonio and The Woodlands. She was a member of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she served on numerous committees and taught Sunday School with Bud.
She loved to travel, especially with her family, getting her first passport at age 80 and heading for Paris, taking a Caribbean cruise with her daughters at 83, and making her first trip to Disney World this past fall. She joined the Red Hats at 90. Even to her last days, she was ready for new adventures. Her family will always treasure her for sharing her joy in new experiences and creating a home filled with love and laughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 57 years. She is survived by three daughters, Susan Hammond and husband John of The Woodlands, Jan Focke and husband Karl of Austin, Jennifer Treadway of Dallas, and one son Jason Treadway and wife Brandy of Dallas, as well as six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life will be held at Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church in The Woodlands on February 18, 2012, at 3 pm. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Kavanaugh United Methodist Church, 2516 Park St, Greenville, TX 75401, or Northwoods Endowment Fund, 1370 N Millbend, The Woodlands, TX 77380.
