He found his "forever" job with AT&T where he started out as a cable splicer and retired in management as a data engineer after about 30 years of service. Jerry's first love was music where he was an All-State Saxophonist in high school. He worked his way through high school and college playing in local bands with his saxophone and keyboard. After being discharged from the Army, he briefly returned to music as a professional musician in the Houston area and doing studio work.
Jerry also loved working with kids and was a volunteer Little League coach with each of Daniel's teams. One of his great joys was being a Cub Scout Den Leader and then later a Scout Master.
He was also a Master Mason in Masonic Lodge #1174 and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his granddaughter, Jacqueline. After retirement, he returned to his love of music with a part-time job at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion where he worked for ten years.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Geraldean Townsend.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda, son Daniel, his wife Kimberly Townsend and granddaughter Jacqueline of Conroe, brothers David and wife Darla Townsend of Pollock, and Bobby Townsend of Pollock, and numerous nephews and niece.
