It is with deep sorrow that we share that John William Jordan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend passed away suddenly on February 28, 2025, at the age of 65. He will be remembered for his immense love of family, dedication to his career, joyful humor, and heart of gold.
John was born into a loving family and grew up in Galesburg, Illinois where his family was instrumental in helping to found the Covenant Church. The Christian Faith was a large part of John’s family’s life. Both John’s grandfather, John William Carlson, and John’s father, Del Jordan, served as Chairmen of the Church for decades and John sang in the church choir and shared his gift of music often as a soloist.
John met the love of his life, Linda, in English class in High School where he and Linda worked on an English Project together in 1975. Linda and John bonded over riding their horses and attending horse shows which culminated in a 100-mile trail in the Ozarks with John’s family to celebrate their graduation from High School in 1977.
John attended Knox College where he was a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business Administration. John and Linda married on December 5th, 1981, and are blessed to have two children, Linnea and Erik.
John’s life passion was spending time with his family. Whether they were traveling as a family to Disneyland, the Hawaiian Islands, Europe or just sitting on the couch for an evening chat, he taught his children to love one another, work hard, be kind, keep a sense of humor, and celebrate life. Family was his greatest gift.
In 1999, John received a job offer that changed the Jordan’s family's life, and they relocated from Illinois to California to join the team at Waste Connections. It was at Waste Connections where John earned the nickname “JJ”. The people at Waste Connections became much more than fellow “employees”. They were some of his best friends and mentors. John took great pride in his work, and the relationships he built at Waste Connections. Through an unparalleled work ethic and relatable and charismatic personality, he contributed to the growth of Waste Connections during his time in Business Development. He worked hard, played hard, and made memorable impressions on everyone he met.
John will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Linda Jordan, their daughter Linnea Jordan married to Kristoffer, and son Erik Jordan and his wife Courtney. He was a proud grandfather to Easton, who is John and Linda’s first grandchild, who brought John so much joy.
John was preceded in death by his father, Del Jordan, mother, Nancy Jordan Gustine, stepfather Frank Gustine, grandfather John William Carlson, and grandmothers Edythe Carlson and Waneta Jordan who was married to Harry Jordan.
John leaves behind a void that can never be filled, but also a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. We will ALWAYS love you, John.
