Judy Ann Kennedy Prichard was born on June 15, 1942, to Ruth May Hendry and Roland Earnest Kennedy in Lufkin, Texas. Judy and her twin brother Johnsa were the second set of twins born to Ruth and Roland. Judy attended Houston public schools and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1960 where she was a member of the Scottish Brigade Drill Team. From there, she continued her education at The University of Houston where she obtained her degree in Elementary Education. While attending U of H, Judy married the love of her life, Harold Alton Prichard, in February of 1963.
After graduation, Judy began teaching fifth grade in Houston ISD. She continued to teach for a total of 25 years and taught in several different school districts including Gregory Portland ISD in Portland, Texas, and Northside ISD in San Antonio. Judy earned her Masters of Education in Administration at Texas A & I University in Kingsville and eventually retired in 1998.
In 1966 while still living in Houston, Judy and Harold had their first daughter, Cynthia Ann. A few years later in 1970, Suzanne Ruth would complete the family. In 1972, The Prichard family moved to Portland, Texas, then moved on to San Antonio in 1977 where they would make their home for the next 38 years until they moved to Montgomery, Texas, in August 2015.
Judy was a devout Christian and was a long-time member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church in San Antonio where she devoted her time and talents as a Children’s Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School Leader. She spent many hours volunteering her time with Gideons International Auxiliary, delivering Bibles to nursing homes and hospitals. After moving to Montgomery, Judy moved her membership to The Woodlands First Baptist Church where she was enjoying making new friends.
One of the greatest joys of Judy’s life was being a grandmother to her four grandchildren: Tyler, Tanner, Craig and Courtney. She loved them unconditionally and was their biggest cheerleader.
Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harold Alton Prichard; daughters Cindy Heiser and Suzy Wright; sons-in-law Craig Heiser and Billy Wright; grandchildren Tyler Wright, Tanner Wright, Craig Heiser and Courtney Heiser; brother Royce Kennedy and wife Sheila; brother RE Kennedy and wife Debbie; sister Joyce Cohen and husband Bob; sister Becky Johnson and husband Bob; numerous nieces and nephews.
