Kennon Darwin Rawls Sr., 98, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away in his home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Kennon was born in Houston, Texas, on November 23, 1926. Kennon graduated from Reagan High School in the Heights and attended the University of Houston. Kennon voluntarily enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII. Kennon served on aircraft carriers and proudly drove the admiral’s barge in the Pacific Theater.

After Kennons service in the United States Navy, he married Lena Doris Siragusa on November 23, 1948. The couple established their home in the Timbergrove neighborhood originally. Kennon and Doris owned Vogler Sheet Metal for many years. After the sale of the business and retiring, the couple moved to The Woodlands.

During Kennon’s retirement, he worked tirelessly with other Height’s area veterans to design and construct the Heights WWII Memorial which serves as a tribute to the Heights area servicemen and women who represented the US during the war. Kennon contributed to the time capsule which is laid at that Heights WWII Memorial.

Kennon is preceded in death by his wife, Lena Doris Rawls, and is survived by his children, Kennon D. Rawls, Jr., Phillip Mark Rawls, Karen Rawls McNally; five grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Swonke, Kennon D. Rawls III, Mistie Michelle Watson, Michael Phillip Rawls, Mark William Rawls; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Kennon will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384. A reception will follow from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM. A committal service will take place from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
