

Matthew grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL. He received an Economics Accounting Degree from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. In college, he met the love of his life, Margaret Ann Hayek. They married on February 3, 1973. He took a job in New Orleans to sell power generation units for Geosource-Hunt Engine Group, which led to a transfer to Houston, Texas. He eventually followed his degree and entered into the insurance and investment industry with Advisors Financial Group which he worked with for 35 years, retiring in Oct 15, 2021.
Matthew had a passion for automobiles, craftsmanship, photography, postcards, sailing, and his kids and grandkids sporting activities. He was very involved in his kids activities including YMCA Board, NWAL Official, Ponderosa Swim Team President, and Indian Princess/Guides, President of Westfield High School Athletics Booster Club. Matthew joined in 2006 the Ponderosa Forest Utility District where he was the Vice President and Investment Officer, additionally he was also the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Ponderosa Joint Powers Agency. While on the Boards, he was very proud to be involved with the development and creation of the Ponderosa Walking Park.
Matthew is survived by his wife Margaret, his two sons, Matthew and Andrew, and his daughter Andrea (Andy Houston); grandchildren Blake and Alyssa; his dog Izzy; brothers Jim, Paul (Wendy), sister Sue (Steve Erickson); John Hayek (Judy); Virgie Hayek and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Forest Park The Woodlands, 18000 Interstate 45S, The Woodlands, TX 77384.
