It is with great sadness that his family announces that on Monday, February 12, 2018. Michael Edgar Tullis peacefully left this Earth to make a very important tee time in Heaven, after courageously battling cancer for six years. Mike was born on October 27, 1955 in Janesville, Wisconsin. He first attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he and Nancy met in 1976, and then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and became a lifelong Badger fan.
Mike worked in various positions in the technology sector over the last 30+ years, making lasting friendships with his colleagues that continue today. He last held the position of Director of Exascale Strategy and Solutions at HP. When he wasn’t working, Mike enjoyed being on the golf course, playing and making memories with friends on the green. He also enjoyed gathering with friends and family at the local Tex-Mex restaurant, sharing memories and laughter over margaritas. He also loved throwing the ball around and playing catch with Keemo.
He was an active and loving father, whether it was hanging out in the family pool, taking extraordinary family vacations, or bonding over favorite Netflix binges. Mike also took great joy in watching his grandsons grow and teaching them how to be the fine young boys they are today.
He was the most considerate, loving, funny man, and the best husband, father and grandfather. Those of us he left behind are truly comforted knowing that he is free from pain, and know he will live in our hearts forever until we meet again. His departure from this Earth leaves a great void in the hearts of those he left behind, but who also know they are extremely lucky to have known and loved him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Lyle Tullis.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Nancy, his children Christy, Kim, and Jeff, his two grandsons, Mason and AJ, and his loyal 4-legged companion Keemo and grand-dog Kaia. Mike is also survived by his brothers and sisters, and numerous extended family members and friends that were like family.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Centers in Houston who never gave up on him and the nurses and staff at Silverado Hospice, who made his last days here far more comfortable for him and his family.
Visitation will be held from 5pm-8pm on Sunday, February 18, 2018 with a prayer service starting 6:30pm at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home and Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45S, The Woodlands, TX 77384. Funeral service will be on Monday, February 19, 2018 in the chapel of the funeral home at 10am.
In lieu of flowers a college fund for Mikes’ beloved grandsons has been set up at Wells Fargo, account ending in 1988.
“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots, but you have to play the ball where it lies.” – Bobby Jones
