

He was born in Bel-Air, Maryland on 3/4/1924. Philip graduated from Bel-Air High School and
received a Bachelor’s of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University. He was married to Patricia Ruth Hopkins on July 9, 1950.
Phil served our country for twenty-seven years as an officer and pilot with the United States Air Force, did combat tours in Viet Nam and Thailand earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and several additional service medals and ribbons. After retiring from the Air Force in 1973 as a Lieutenant Colonel, Phil revived the Air Force ROTC program at Goddard High School in Roswell, New Mexico, in addition to teaching math. Phil later was employed by Sperry / Honeywell as an editor in Albuquerque, NM. He was a member of Toast Masters in Roswell.
Phil had a passion for reading, traveling, bird-watching, and loved to do the morning crossword puzzle. One of his favorite activities was sailing in the Gulf during their time in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hopkins, son Dr. Philip Hopkins, III and his wife, Linda and son Sean, son Roger Hopkins and his wife, Kathy and children Katy & Patrick, daughter Beth Tobola and her husband Craig and daughters Samantha and Karlee, and son Bill Hopkins and his wife Jennifer and their children Ben and Becca. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Jennifer and Danielle and his great-grandchildren, Ryan and Audrey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Ann Bauder. ,
Funeral arrangements will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 16th, at Trinity Episcopal Church in The Woodlands, TX .
