He was born on June 18, 1952 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He was the youngest of five children to Han Soen Hoo and Oey Lien Nio. With the help of his eldest brother, he moved to the United States to attend The Ohio State University. He then completed a master's degree in Civil Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Shortly after, he married his wife, Silvy Santoso, in 1978. Together they made a home in Houston, where they raised their two daughters.
Rudolf built offshore structures as a consultant at ExxonMobil for over 20 years. His love of building extended into his hobbies; he spent many hours creating custom cabinets and wooden toys. He was also able to design, build, and move into his dream house next to a lake in Spring, Texas.
In 2013, Rudolf was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. Despite a discouraging prognosis, he fought a brave 2-year battle. Although those 2 years were filled with chemotherapy and clinical trials, that didn't stop him from enjoying life. He was able to attend his youngest daughter's wedding, play with his 2 oldest grandchildren, go on family trips, and be at the birth of his 3rd grandchild. He was a kind, generous, hardworking, selfless family man who will forever be remembered for the great care he showed others.
Rudolf is survived by his wife of 37 years, Silvy Suhendra; his oldest daughter Michelle, her husband Ben, and their children Caden and Camille; his youngest daughter Maureen, her husband Adam, and their daughter Lulu; his dear dog Porto; his brothers Robby and Ronny; and his sisters Sonja and Sylvie.
