Life began for Sandra in Magasco, Texas on April 12, 1942. Her humble beginnings in East Texas were filled with lots of churches, as her father was a preacher, and also lots of love, surrounded by loving parents, siblings, and extended family and friends. She graduated from Pearland High School in 1959 then immediately married Karl Collins on June 5, 1959. In the next eight years they had three children. Throughout the 1980s, Sandra and Karl fostered 12 newborn babies from birth until they were placed in permanent homes.
Sandra received a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University in 1975. She worked as a teacher at Northland Christian School for many years before becoming director of Spring Woodlands Christian School. She was also an avid and award-winning (she’d want me to add that) artist, creating beautiful paintings in oil, watercolor, and pastels. She created various crafts, too, such as her much sought after Santa necklaces made from old spoons. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Sandra was passionate for Jesus, his Word, her brothers and sisters in Christ, and all of God‘s children.
She is preceded in death by her husband Karl Douglass Collins, her son David Karl Collins, her parents Murphie McNeill and Willie Meigs McNeill, her sisters Jean Juanell Adkins and Dixie Duvergne Allen, and her brother Doyce McNeill. She is survived by her children Mark McNeill Collins and Stacey Elaine Collins; her grandson Daniel David Collins; her nieces and nephews Heidi Adkins, Linda Sears, Terry Adkins, Michelle Kennedy, Darrell McNeill, Royce McNeill, and Wayne Fults; her sister-in-law Aquin DeeAnn McNeill; numerous cousins and grand nieces and nephews, as well as countless precious friends and colleagues.
Last but not least, I’m sure Sandra would want me to add this: After neuro psych testing in September 2021, Dr. Cox said: “Her intellectual function is exceptional.”
All who had the good fortune of knowing her will remember Sandra’s great mind and her outgoing and unmeasured personality, along with her infectious humor, sharp wit, and generous spirit. Though she will be deeply missed, we rest happy in the knowledge that Sandra is home with her Father above.
A memorial service for Sandra will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
