Thomas E. Schroeder was born January 31, 1925 in Leadville, Colorado where he was raised by his grandmother Margaret “Annie” Brannin, he was born with a true fighting spirit where at the age of 8, he spent summers in Minturn, Colorado boxing for money to help support his grandmother. That spirit continued throughout his life – he was a hard worker, fought for his country twice - at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and fought in WWII where his destroyer fired the final shots in the war. He was called back in the Korean War where he spent another 13 months.
He married Marjorie Thomas on January 8, 1949 and they spent 67 wonderful years hand in hand in life, on the dance floor, boating, fishing and exploring the country. They set an example of what True Love and Family First really means.
Tom snow skied well into his 80’s after years of being on the National Ski Patrol, pioneering the sport of Ski Joring in Leadville and teaching his children and grand children to water ski, snow ski and fish in the beautiful Colorado Mountains.
Tom was elected ‘Justice of the Peace’ in Leadville in 1961 where he made sure everyone followed the rules. He performed marriages for many young couples – even in the living room of our home.
Tom and Marj moved to Denver in 1963, where they continued to raise their family. After retiring from Allstate Insurance Company as an agent for 28 years, they spent the winters in Arizona making wonderful friends and had many good times. They moved to Houston in 2008 where they enjoyed the low altitude, lots of flowers and new friends.
Tom’s fighting spirit got him through many challenging health issues where he always had a positive attitude and rarely, if ever, complained. His battle ended on Saturday June 18, 2016 where he passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, children Kathy, Karol, Karen (Mike), Kitt, Bobbi and Richard.
