Thomas E. Mohr, a fifty-year resident of Thiensville, WI passed away on Friday October 25, 2013 at age 90 at Alexian Village of Milwaukee, WI. Tom was born May 27, 1923 in Milwaukee, the son of August and Elsie (nee Erdmann) Mohr. He graduated from Rufus King HS, Milwaukee in June, 1941. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1942 shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the military he was an aircraft electrical system instructor and airplane electrical mechanic. He married Gretchen (Barnes) on August 17, 1944. After being discharged in 1945 Tom enrolled at Marquette University under the GI Bill and earned a BS in electrical engineering in May, 1948.
Tom and Gretchen moved to Thiensville in 1960 and became very active members of the community. He was the Milwaukee Home Defense Corps Block Warden from 1948 to 1960, and the Thiensville Civil Defense Director from 1960 to 1986. He was a cub scout and boy scout leader and little league coach; Thiensville-Mequon District 3 School Board member for 6 years; Thiensville Special Police Officer (badge #1) for 43 years; Thiensville Planning Commission member for 18 years; Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post 457 member and adjutant; and Thiensville Historic Preservation Committee member.
Tom worked for Louis Allis, Doerr Electric and finally Leeson Electric as Chief Electrical Design Engineer for 18 years. He was a member of Mequon United Methodist Church. Tom was a proud Honor Flight participant in 2009.
Tom is survived by his children: Thomas (Arlene) Mohr of Jefferson City, MO; Peggy Mohr of Adell, WI; Steve (June) Mohr of Cedarburg, WI; Mark (Jane) Mohr of Sturgeon Bay, WI; and Sally (Glen) Lunde of Waukesha, WI: his grandchildren: Thomas, Bryan, Anthony (Kara), Michael (Andrea) and Samantha; and great-granddaughter Molly (born 10/21/2013); sister-in-law Doris Mohr, close friend June Campbell, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Gretchen, his parents, and his grandchildren Regan and Mark Lunde.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11 AM on Saturday November 9, 2013 at Mequon United Methodist Church, 11011 N. Oriole Ln., Mequon, WI 53092. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 AM until the time of service and at a reception to be held afterwards. Memorials may be given to the Thiensville Volunteer Fire Department, the Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post 457, or Mequon United Methodist Church.
