

A resident of this area all of his life, Allen was born on May 30, 1952 in Guilford County to the late James Archie and Marilyn Driggers Holmes. He had worked as a professional painter for many years and was a devoted member of Landmark Baptist Church. Allen loved watching sports, especially the UNC Tar Heels, Carolina Panthers, and Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed working in his yard and loved his four legged companion, Roady, his yellow lab.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Holmes and one sister, Wanda Compton.
Surviving are his wife of over 24 years, Glenda Hicks Holmes of the home; step-daughter, Nikki Wright Rushford and fiancé Matthew May of Trinity; step-son, Ronald Kinley and wife Sherry of Archdale; two grandchildren, John and Joseph Rushford; sister, Barbara Oxendine and husband James of High Point; and special niece, Patricia Faircloth of Archdale.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at 7:30 pm Tuesday, December 13th at Landmark Baptist Church, 6055 Sunset View Drive, Trinity, with Rev. Amos Mashburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. A private burial will take place in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Landmark Baptist Church or Hospice of Randolph County.
