Barbara was born in Davidson County on March 18, 1944 a daughter to the late Samuel LeRoy Raper and Vallie Morris Raper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jay” Black. Barbara was a graduate of Thomasville High School. She retired from Unilin Flooring as a Plant Controller in 2005 and was a member of Holly Grove Lutheran Church in Lexington, NC. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of her cats. She also enjoyed the previous months making new friends at The Gardens of Taylor Glen Retirement Community in Concord.
Surviving are sons, Scott Black and wife Judy of Lexington, NC, Craig Black and wife Kathy of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Amanda Wright and husband Elton of Concord, NC; brothers, Jim Raper and wife Betsy of Newport News, VA, Richard Raper and late wife Mary of Tullahoma, TN; seven grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew.
A funeral service will held 12:00 PM Friday at Holly Grove Lutheran Church in Lexington, NC. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:45 am at the church prior to the service.
