Betty Virginia Anders Shumaker

Betty was born in Comers Rock, VA on August 22, 1956 to the late Edgar and Juanita Jones Anders. She and her husband Barry James Shumaker devoted their lives to the ministry, having faithfully served as youth leaders. Betty attended Full Gospel Freewill Holiness Church in Thomasville and truly loved God and her family. She was a mother figure to many and always cared for those in need.

She especially enjoyed fishing and singing gospel music. Betty had a love for animals, leaving behind her three dogs, Scooter, Skeeter, and Tinker Bell. She also became affectionately known as “Turtle Lady” for her dozens of turtles that she cared for at her turtle pond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barry James Shumaker in 2013.

Survivors include her son, Rev. Charles Wesley Shumaker and his wife Jaqueline of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Andrew, Dakota, and Alexis Shumaker; and numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 7 pm Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Full Gospel Freewill Holiness Church, 1021 W. Holly Hill Road, with Pastor Junior Hutchins and Pastor Josh Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
