Mr. David Loyd Norris, 91 of Thomasville, passed into the Hands of his “Heavenly Father” on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. David was born July 18, 1921, the oldest son of his late father, Oscar Roy Norris, Sr. and his late mother, Jewel Booth Norris.
He was raised in Chattanooga, TN along with five siblings. The family later moved to Thomasville, NC. David attended school at Colonial Drive and Fair Grove Schools. Upon graduating he was enlisted in March, 1940 by the Army to serve his country during WWII in the Pacific theater with the U.S. Army. This tour of duty ended in December of 1945. David was a self-employed with his own Upholstery Company and Owner–Operator in the Trucking Industry.
In January of 1946 he married Romaine Ellis Norris of High Point, NC who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond (Duke) Norris and Roy (June) Norris and one sister, Wilma Norris Armentrout.
David resided with his son and caregiver Ken in Thomasville, NC.
David is survived by his three sons; Jimmy Wayne (Darlene) Norris of Albuquerque, N.M., Ken H. (Becky) Norris of Thomasville, NC and Eddie Loyd Norris of Thomasville, NC; granddaughters, Cindy and Melinda Norris and Tracy Norris Brown; grandsons, Gregory D and Christopher L Norris; great granddaughters, Kaitlyn M and Brianna J Norris; great grandsons, Tevin Pope , Terry II and Triston Brown and Ryan Woods; two sisters, JoAnn Angel of Thomasville, NC and Lorena Norris of Easley, SC; nieces, Libby Norris (Whit) Scyphess, Diane S Norris, Arlene Norris (Willie) Hacther, Judy (Joe) Armentrout Peace and Janet Armentrout (Mike) Miller; nephews, David L Norris Jr., Steve (Beth)Angel, Tim and Joel (Robin) Angel and Jackie (Susan) Grogan; two great great grandchildren, a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Thomasville Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Junior Hutchins officiating followed by interment in Holly Hill Memorial Park with Reverend Randall Reece officiating and with military honors.
