Rev. John “Johnny” M. Albertson Sr., age 73, beloved husband of Margie Dianne Albertson of Thomasville, won his seven year hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer as he returned to his heavenly home on March 10, 2021.
He was a lifelong student of the Bible. He began in the ministry at age sixteen and became an ordained minister a few years later. Over the course of his life, he served his Lord as Sunday school teacher, missionary (serving in the remote regions of Jamaica, Philippines and Trinidad), missions director, youth director, assistant pastor, assistant general overseer, and general overseer of The Original Church of God. He also served as senior pastor for over 35 years in various churches across North Carolina, Tennessee, and Arkansas. He enjoyed woodworking and through the years was employed at Thomasville Furniture Industries, Commercial Carving, Connor Carving, Hill Frame, and Dependable Frame. Johnny took pleasure in working with his hands keeping busy with countless wood working projects, hunting, fishing, and restoring his 1970 Karmann Ghia.
Born in Thomasville, North Carolina, on April 25, 1947, he was the son of the late J. D. Albertson and Mary Lord Albertson, a World War II paramedic and homemaker respectively, and the middle child of three children. Johnny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margie Dianne Albertson, two sons John “Joe” M. Albertson Jr. (Joan), and Michael R. Albertson (Connie), brother Joseph Donald Albertson (Rhonda), sister Linda A. Byerly (Laurence), 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Sechrest-Davis of Thomasville, 18 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC 27360. The family will greet friends from 1-1:45 PM prior to the service.
