Norman Kent Byrd

Mr. Byrd was born on February 23, 1942 in Guilford County NC, a son to the late Carl A. and Minnie Nance Byrd. Kent was part of the sharp shooter squad while enlisted in the National Guard. He received a 3 year degree from a University in Phoenix, Arizona and for over 20 years was an employee of Ryder Trucking Company where he was a supervisor of mechanics. Over the years, he received many awards from the company.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Ruby Payne Byrd, 2 brothers, David Byrd and Rickey Byrd and wife Teresa, 3 sisters, Judy Cranford and husband Steve, Connie Beck and husband Tony and Cathy Beck and husband Tim, all of the Thomasville area, 3 Nieces, Angie Hartsell and husband Bobby, Cara Lagunas and husband Marcelino and Amanda Hunley & husband Eddie and 3 Nephews, Randy Byrd, Michael Cranford and wife Shannon and Bobby Beck. Also surviving are a great-niece Jessica Byrd; one great-nephew Nathaniel Hunley and Ruby’s aunt, Vera Macemore.

A celebration of Mr. Byrd’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 22nd in the Chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph St. with Reverend Jason Poe officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
