Ray was born May 14, 1930 in Carroll County, VA to the late James L. and Cassie Shinault Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Carpenter.
He is survived by his beloved wife Lois Beam Carpenter of the home; son, Charles Carpenter and wife Mary of Lexington; daughters, Deborah Harrington of Richmond, VA, Rita Carpenter of Lexington; step daughters, Hilda Moose and husband Wayne of Lexington, Connie Hunt and husband Tommy of Lexington, Sherry Lowman of Lexington; sisters, Helen Sisk and husband Benny of Lexington, Shelby Dean Brinkley of Lexington, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday July 3, 2011 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Thomasville Funeral Home. A Chapel Service will follow at 3:00 pm with Reverends Emma Milam and Ralph Byrd officiating; followed by Interment at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
