He was predeceased by his parents John Charles and Daisy (Davis) Humphries, his sisters Evelean Smith and Sally Rairden, and his grandson Charles Ryan Humphries.
John was born in Bishopville, South Carolina on August 18, 1935 and lived there through his school years. After proudly serving in the US Army, he moved to Tampa, Florida where he lived most of his life. He enjoyed fishing and bowling, but most of all, spending time with his family. As well as being blunt, rambunctious and funny, he was strong, caring, loving, devoted, compassionate, admired, generous, sensitive, kind hearted, and a hard working family man. He was wise and offered words of encouragement and wisdom which has guided his children through the years.
Besides his wife Carolyn, John is survived by his six children: Ronnie Humphries and his wife Lauren (Mullis) Humphries of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Lewie Humphries and his wife Colleen (Decoursey) Humphries of Fort Meyers, Florida; Brenda (Humphries) Rodriguez and her husband Lenny Rodriguez of Zephyrhills, Florida; Renet (Humphries) Snow and her husband Frank Snow of Parker, Colorado; Cherry (Humphries) Lamb and her husband Michael Lamb of Riverview, Florida; and Deril Humphries and his wife Carrie (Goertz) Humphries of Wesley Chapel, Florida. John is also survived by his 18 grand children: John, Jennifer, Shannon, Chris, Jeff, Carol, Mary, Glen, Justin, Andrea, Jarrett, Trent, Tyler, Lindsey, Ty, Jake, Macie, & Rylee; and 11 Great Grand Children: Victoria, Sarah, Hunter, Leah, Lucas, Andrew, Jocelyn, Taylor, Charlotte, Athena, & Sadie; and his loving poodle Charlie.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the HPH Hospice House, the VA Hospital, and the VA Palliative Care Association. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last month were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
