Late in the day of August 19th, 2012, Lou was suddenly taken from us, only 4 days before his 92nd birthday. Eldest son of Louis and Anna, loving husband of Marion (nee Mensour) of 55 years, father of Carl Stephen and his wife Rosemaria, and grandfather of Meaghan Alicia and Carlos Eduardo. Brother of Emmanuel (deceased) and his wife Joan, Paul (deceased) and his wife Mary (deceased), Dorothy and her husband John Kekely (deceased). Uncle to many nieces and nephews and godfather to Suzanne Kekely, Anita Mole, Beverley Sicluna, and Michael Mensour. Lou lived an amazing life. He was born in Budmerice, Slovakia just outside of Bratislava. His father had left for Canada in 1926, to forge a better life for the family and in 1929, Lou emmigrated to Canada with his mother and two younger brothers. His sister Dorothy was born soon afterwards and the family prospered, even through the Depression. Lou was a strapping and intelligent young man, who attended De La Salle College and Harbord Collegiete and, as most Canadians, served his country in the second World War in the RCAF as a Corporal, stationed in England, where he was responsible for aircraft engine repair and maintenance. Upon his return to Canada, he studied at University of Toronto Schools and shortly after completion worked for HFC in the early 50's. It was during this tenure that he met Marion at a St. Anthony's CYO dance. They had a typical courtship and wed in 1956. Lou later landed a position with Marshall Macklin Monaghan as Office Manager and then moved to Mack Trucks in Toronto. It was many years later that he found his calling as a Real Estate Agent at Robert Case. He enjoyed many happy years at the Scarborough Branch and retired well past age 65. After retirement, Lou enjoyed many hours together with Marion and particularly enjoyed short excursions to Las Vegas with relatives. He also enjoyed his two trips to Portugal and Spain. What made Lou's last year so memorable, was the birth of his grandson Carlos. "My little boy" was the spark that lit up his face and his spirits. Lou was an active member of St. Gabriel's Passionist Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No.4393. Lou had also canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society for more than 15 years. We will all remember Lou as a considerate, unassuming, gentle and intelligent man, dedicated to his family, friends, and church.
