
BAKER, Dr. Alvin Alston-After a long full life, Dr. Alvin Alston Baker passed away in his 89th year at York Central Hospital on March 9, 2003. Predeceased by his wife Dorrell Ann Baker (nee Bolton), sister Ruth Shepherd and brothers Edward and Walter. Survived by sisters Jean Vaughan, Lois Borden and Marion Godfrey and brothers Harry, Warren Jim and Trevor. Alvin will also be missed by his son John and his daughter-in-law Susan and daughter Suzanne Brown. Dear grandfather of Tara Rosen, Mark Baker, Sharyda Hutchison, Ryan Baker, Jevon Brown and great-grandfather of Billy, Sasha, Josh and Jacob. Dr. Baker, an ear, nose and throat specialist, practiced at Toronto School for the Deaf and Providence Villa. During the Second World War, he received the rank of Major and was stationed in Halifax. Alvin was a member of Thornhill Golf Club for over fifty years. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 am at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). Funeral Service in the Chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
