We are sad to announce that Don Welsh left this
earth on August 16, 2012. Don died as he
lived, expressing gratitude for a wonderful life of
89 years. He bore, with unfailing courage, dignity and good
humour, the many limitations imposed by a stroke in 2006.
Born in Brantford, Ontario to Leslie and Marjorie Welsh.
A veteran of WW11 serving overseas in the RCAF.
University of Toronto Medical Class of 1950.
Don will be missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Robert,
Kathryn (Tom Stefanik), his grandsons Sean and Jeremy and
his brother Gordon. Isabelle, Don's loving and much loved wife of
32 great years, will never forget this warm, supportive, realistic
and caring man.
He leaves many good friends from Shouldice Hospital
where he worked for 52 years as a Staff Surgeon,
Chief of Staff and, prior to the stroke, the examining doctor
at the Davisville office. His laughter and endless supply of
jokes and stories will be fondly remembered. Colleagues in
Philatelic Societies, here and overseas, will recall his passion
and enjoyment in his lifetime hobby of stamp collecting.
Now the albums are closed!
We deeply appreciate our many special friends for their concern,
visits, support, and understanding through Don's journey.
Thanks also to the medical teams in Unit K2C, and all others involved
in Don's care at the Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Undying gratitude to Dr. Brenda Whitney for her friendship and
interventions through the past six years.
Cremation has taken place.
A service of remembrance will be held at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior.
Should you wish to make a memorial donation, perhaps you
might consider the Sunnybrook Veterans Comfort Fund, 2075 Bayview Avenue
Toronto, ON M4N 3M5; The Salvation Army, or in keeping with Don's memory,
enjoy a special dinner with someone loved.
