January 20, 1924 – July 24, 2016
Surrounded by family, Peter passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General in his 93rd year. Loving husband of Francka for 11 years and his first wife Lea (pre-deceased) for 51 years. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his children Sonya, Marcel (Rima), Charlotte (David) and Louise (Iain), nine grandchildren, and brothers Tone and Vladimir.
Born in 1924 in Olsevek, Slovenia, Peter was the middle son with older brother Tony and younger brother Vladimir. A normal childhood was abruptly interrupted by the onset of WWII. In 1950 Peter came to Canada finally settling in Toronto. Having travelled and worked on three continents, Peter was by this time fluently octo-lingual. His career (self-employed from the outset) as a travel agent spanned the next four decades with his partner and loyal friend Dr. Zuzek.
After his first wife Lea passed in 2003 Peter was blessed to find Francka in 2005 and they married shortly after. Francka became his constant companion and lovingly cared for him in his final years. In his later years Peter was an avid chess player. Reading, writing, and travelling to visit friends and relatives in Europe and elsewhere rounded out his remarkable and fruitful life.
The family will receive friends and relatives at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and from 7:00 – 9:00PM on Thursday, July 28, 2016.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 739 Brown’s Line on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment at Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Road and celebration of life to follow.
