

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21st, 2015. Born in Long Island, New York on September 6, 1924, Ed loved to share his passion for family and people. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Rosemarie (nee DeVito) and his children Ed (Lisa), Mary Beth (John), Caroline (Gord) and sorely missed by his grandchildren Thomas, Alexandra, Chris, Katherine and Sean, his sister Dorothy McElwreath as well as numerous family and remarkable friends. After serving with the United States Army in WWII for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, Ed graduated from Seton Hall University. He started his career in the advertising business in New York City and eventually settled in Toronto. In addition to raising his family in Toronto, Ed was actively involved in the community serving on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto and Providence Villa. Ed's volunteering extended to the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto, St. Gabriel's Passionist Parish, St. Vincent De Paul Society and Big Brothers. The family would like to thank the staff of Leaside Retirement Residence for their loving care of Ed.
Friends may call at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto on Friday, January 30th from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Gabriel's Passionist Parish, 670 Sheppard Ave. East, Toronto, on Saturday January 31st at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception at Thornhill Country Club will be held following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Toronto Central Council.
