February 25, 1941 - January 25, 2023
Peacefully at home surrounded by family after a lengthy illness at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 54 years to Patricia (nee Lyons); loving father to Ciara (Trickett) & John and the late Sarah (McComb)(2021) & Christopher (1984). Father-in-law to Weston McComb, Andrew Trickett & Teresa Superville. Cherished Poppa to Aidan (Maggy), Nicholas, Peter & Katie McComb; Molly, James, Jack & Caroline Trickett; William, Philippa, Lawrence & Henry Superville. Errol will be missed by his siblings; Lorna (late Ernie), Roland (Sheila), Ann (Julian), Rosemarie (Alex), & Carol (Wes); his large extended family and his many dear friends.
Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, he grew up in a large family and was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by his mother who was a midwife, delivering babies would become his greatest joy as a doctor. He moved to Ireland in 1959 to attend medical school at University College Dublin. Ireland was home to him for seven years, the people and the country always held a special place in his heart; he considered himself part Irish. He then moved to Toronto and began his medical career as an intern at St. Michael’s Hospital. Following this he worked at the Albany Clinic and then opened his private family practice in Willowdale and for the next 42 years was also a valued member of the Obstetrics & General Practice physicians at North York General Hospital until he retired in 2008. He was a highly respected physician who was devoted to his patients and treated them with the utmost kindness and care, he listened and made them feel like he had all the time in the world for them.
He was guided by his strong faith, affectionately called the 'Pope of North York' by those who loved him. His church was a place where he spent much time and he found solace in his community of dear friends from the church and beyond. Errol was loved and admired by his friends, he always gave them his full attention and was willing to help at the drop of a hat. When he and Patricia celebrated their 50th anniversary this message was included from a friend: “And, Errol, what can I say? You are a joy and a blessing to the world. The purity of your soul touches each and everyone in your presence. It is not only your heart but your eyes…it really is how we are as a person, the things we do and how we treat each other that are the most important.” This was Errol.
Errol had a great love of travel and enjoyed seeing the world with Patricia. He greatly enjoyed tennis, skiing and always loved to water ski during the summer at his favorite place, his cottage on Loon Lake. The cottage is where he loved to gather with his family. A family man above all else, we are all comforted knowing that he has been reunited with his two children in heaven; Sarah & Christopher. Their reunion was what he awaited.
Special thanks to Dr. Donna Reece and her incredible team at Princess Margaret Hospital. Many thanks to his dear friends who have been incredibly supportive to Errol and Patricia. We are also grateful to the caregivers from Bayshore and the Temmy Latner Centre who have been by his side in his final days. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all. Friends may call on Thursday February 2nd, 2023 from 3 - 8 pm at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home 8088 Yonge St. Thornhill, ON.
