In Loving Memory

On September 7th, 2021, after a joyous month of celebrating her 90 years with family and friends, Evelyn Louise (nee Leblanc) Cormier passed away peacefully at home. She was predeceased by her husband Laurence and three of her children; Norman, Andrea and Audra.

She is survived by three of her children; Francine Giroux, Laurene (Claude) and Steven (Arbee) and four grandchildren; James, Elizabeth (Dave), Anthony and Owen.

She was an at home Mom to six of her own children and foster-mom to numerous children on their way to being adopted. Her last foster child was George who became a permanent member of her family.

Evelyn was clever when it came to all things crafty. She sewed many of her children’s clothing, sewed too many Raggedy Ann dolls to count, knit numerous sweaters for many family members. She also knitted for charity; hats for the homeless, Santa faces (hundreds of them and possibly more than 1,000) and since 2017 knitted over 350 knitted knockers. She made and donated many quilts over the years and those she made for her children and grandchildren will be cherished forever.

In her honour, please consider donating to Participation House, Sick Kids Hospital or a charity of your choice.

We feel very blessed to be part of the Cormier family for so many years and share in great memories. A few memories that come to mind are the many dinners and special occasions we gathered for. We loved Evelyn’s biscuits, devilled eggs, and lemon meringue pie. The lobster dinners were alway a great hit.
It also meant a lot to me that she knit a sweater with sheep on it for me in the 80’s. Now that I knit I realize how much work goes into these projects.. Heaven has gained a very special angel. You will be missed by all who knew and loved you ❤️

Evelyn was a dedicated member of our milk bag weaving group at St. Gabriel's Church. She often came with items to share that she had crocheted or crafted and she always came with a story to make us laugh! I am delighted to hear that she was able to visit Cape Breton one last time this summer. She is finally at home.
