Gina Figuer (nee Manna) passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26th, under the loving care of her daughters. Her beloved and cherished husband Frank passed away last July, and she is survived by her adoring daughters and son-in-laws, Marci, Irena (Joe), Silvana (Harry), Anna (Joe) and Susy. She was a loving nonna to her grandchildren Christine (Vince), Mario, Gianluca, Maddie and Mia, and a dear great nonna to Sammy and Ciara, and her grand puppy Dolce.
Gina was predeceased by her beloved son Johnny, and by her dear parents Antonio and Giuseppina Manna, and by her brothers Gerry (Ida) and Frank. Also, brothers & sisters in-laws, Carmela (Tony), Giovanni (Adelina), Assunta (Antonio) and Antonio (Antonietta), Rosaria, Rosina. Gina leaves behind her beloved brother Paul (Lily), and many cousins, nieces, nephews and family.
Gina’s life was marked with great responsibility, both as a young girl living in Calabria, Italy looking after her younger siblings, and as a young mother raising her 6 children in Canada. Although small in stature, Gina had an incredible inner strength and fearlessness, and was totally devoted to her loving husband and her adoring children. She worked tirelessly (in and outside of the family home) to ensure that her children had everything they needed to be successful, and she delighted in their happiness. Gina loved to cook and bake especially. She loved being compared to Martha Stewart and enjoyed watching all the cooking shows. She was truly a remarkable baker in her own right, and could replicate any cake, cookie, or pastry dessert, after just tasting one morsel. Two of her specialties were her biscotti, and her wonderful watermelon ice cream cake that looked so authentic it could have won first prize at any county fair. Gina had an infectious laugh that was so precocious, and an amazing affinity and facility with numbers….she could easily have been a highly successful accountant, had she been given the opportunity to advance academically. For over 63 years, she was the perfect companion and best friend to her beloved husband Frank, who was always so gregarious, outgoing and affable…Gina was more reserved and laconic, and always maintained a quiet dignity.
Gina was never more happy than when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her daughters are exceedingly grateful to have had so many wonderful memories of their caring, loving and devoted mother, and wish to pay tribute to a mother who was always there for each and every one of them, to guide them, to protect them, and to love them equally unconditionally. May God bless her, and may her soul be bound with her beloved Frank in heaven for all eternity….and may loving memories of Gina reside in our hearts forever!!!!
Due to the current restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic a private funeral mass will be held for the family.
