I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Shin. He was my doctor at Cortellucci in 2021, and his kindness and compassion was something that helped me through a difficult time. He was always positive and with a smile on his face. My condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Working alongside Dr. Shin, off and on for the past 6 years, I can confidently say he was one of the kindest and most receptive physicians I have encountered. On a personal note, we crossed paths at Sunnybrook during both of our treatments and his compassion did not waver even during the most challenging times. You will be missed Dr. Shin. A great loss to the Mackenzie Health hospital.

Dr. Jacob Shin was very kind. Always listening to everyone’s concerns, he was so compassionate and kind in his work. He was so brave with such a beautiful soul. My heart goes out to his family. We are so blessed to have had you with us.. you are greatly missed.

I am sending my deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Shin..  I am the nurse who admitted him in 7DEF and it was a pleasure having him as my patient. He was a wonderful person, so smart and so humble. It is so sad that he was taken away too soon, but I know he is in a better place with no more pain and suffering. I am praying for his eternal rest and for the strength of his wife and young kids.

From the first day Dr shin started working with the ortho inpatient team on D4 surgery we all felt he was the perfect addition to the team and would fit right in. He was so kind, polite, caring, dedicated, compassionate, skilled, humble, knowledgeable and always available to answer our calls even if it was just for a “tylenol” order.  Dr shin was an exemplary physician. He always knew what to say and when to say it with respect and kindness. 
In a world full of copies Dr Shin was definitely an original. His impact on our team will always be cherished and never forgotten.  My deepest condolences to his family. Today and always, may loving memories bring you peace, comfort, and strength.

Dr. Shin was an exemplary physician who demonstrated tremendous bravery and courage during his sickness. Above all, he was admired for his kindness, compassion and gentleness in how he treated his patients and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jacob's passing. He was such a smart and friendly person, and I always enjoyed playing euchre with him during our lunch breaks in high school.  Those moments of laughter and fun are memories I'll always cherish.

All these years that I have known Jacob, He remained humble, down to earth, polite and gracious.
Never raised his voice and always smiled, no matter how much he was hurting inside.
He was a competent and compassionate physician , always ready to help his colleagues and patients.

It was an honor and privilege to know and work alongside of him and he will be missed greatly .

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Shin for almost a year. He was the kindest, most humble person I've ever met. He was pure-hearted and put a smile on everyone's face. He went to see his patients daily and even came on Sundays. He was always responsive and approachable to staff. I never once heard him complain or talk negatively about others. 

One day, when I was feeling silly, I asked him if I should call him oppa or samchon. He said that samchon is probably more fitting, but oppa feels better. About two weeks before his passing when I went to see him in the hospital, he spoke to me about income tax, pension plans, and how I need to save money. He acted like a true work dad. He cried when my mom told him about my car accident, despite the fact that he was going through much worse himself. He was always very caring towards me, which is something I can never forget. 

As I embark on my journey to become a physician myself, I hope to be as knowledgable, compassionate and humble as Dr. Shin was. He will always serve as  a role model and inspiration for me. I hope I can make him proud and continue his legacy.

I am deeply saddened to learn about his loss. I would always remember him as a diligent, passionate human being with a great attitude and precious soul. My heart is with his family during this difficult time, Hope our messages offer some comfort to them.

Rebecca - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. He sounds like a wonderful and kind man. I know grief is necessary and you will be sad, but also hope that you see him living on in his children and in his legacy as a doctor. I got to know Jacob when I started in 2016. Jacob started 2 years earlier. It took me three years to finally have him open up to me. He started talking more, we shared good  laughs. He would give me best advice when I  needed one. we became good reliable work friends. He was fiercely loyal and compassionate person. One of the best people I know  He became like my brother. He fought well. He told me that cancer can most probably take my body away but can’t touch my  fighting spirit. It was an honour to have his trust especially in taking care of his floor and helping him with his fight against cancer. He told me I did my best. I will miss him terribly. He was a brave but kind gentle soul. He has a lovely family. We lost a good person. not fair. May God Bless him and may his children grow exactly like him… this world would be a better place with more Jacobs. Love you. Kamsa Hamnida for everything.

Dr. Shin, you are an amazing physician with such a caring and kind heart.  You showed outstanding bedside manners, with your sympathy to sick patients and professionalism.  It has been my honor to work with you and get to know you. You will be in all our hearts and deeply missed.

It was a privilege working with Dr.Shin these past couple of years. Our team dynamic on 8ABC is very much like a family and we lost a key member of our unit family. 

Dr.Shin was a gentle soul, a compassionate and kind  doctor patient per patient, dedicating his time at bedside listening to each and every patient/family request and answering their questions.  He answered our calls even if it was past 6pm (thank you!) and never shot down a request or question regarding our patient and their plan of care. I remember how awful he felt and the multiple apologies one day for ordering blood transfusions for two of my patients because of the day we were having <3 
You will be missed and forever loved by us on 8ABC, Dr Shin!!!!

Dr. Shin was always very approachable, patient and kind during my time with the Ortho bundled care program. I don’t think I would have done that role without his support and teamwork and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work along side him.

I had the privilege to work with Dr. Shin on 4 New North/D4 Surgery Purple at MRHH and 8ABC @ Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. I don't have all the words to describe how wonderful he was as a Colleague. He is attentive, an active listener, patient, compassionate and has a really big heart. ie) There were times where he would ask how he could help some of his Clinic patients after leaving the hospital for the day. Not only was his bedside manner with his patients top notch, he also made other allied health professionals feel valued, appreciated and a part of the Team. I will definitely miss our discussions (and frustrations!) about the Raptors. He was truly the Raps' #1 fan. My sincerest condolences to Marie, Rebecca and his family. It was my honour to know Dr Shin from work!  Jacob was truly a beautiful soul, a caring father, a faithful Christian.  He showed me how to be content, be courageous during treatment, be humble and cherish everyday and be happy with his family regardless of how difficult life it was or how nervous he might have felt.  He overcame it all at the end, and he conquered death because God is with him.

May he rest in eternal peace, and overlooks his beautiful children from above.

My thoughts are with Jacob's family at this difficult time.  He was a quiet thoughtful physician advocate for patients who will be missed greatly.
