

Jean passed away peacefully in her 100th year on Dec 28, 2024 in Toronto Ontario.
Daughter of the late William and Ellenor (Jennie) LANG of Hamilton Township, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Judson (Jud). Loving mother of the Rev Elizabeth and the late James Hopkins who predeceased her in 1989. Sister of Martin, George, Mary Crossen, Laura Glass, Amy Van Dusen, Howard and Donald Lang, all who predeceased her.
Jean was four months old when her mother died, and was five when her father died. She was raised by various and numerous extended family who generously gave of themselves to nurture and provide a loving home to Jean until she finished high school.In the summers of the early 1940’s Jean became a member of the Farmerettes Camp program, where high school girls helped on farms to harvest fruit and vegetables as they were needed due to the shortage of men during WW ll. Peaches being her “specialty”.
Jean graduated as a Reg. Nurse from the Kingston General Hospital in 1947. After graduation Jean attended the University of Toronto enrolled in a post graduate nursing program. While at U of T Jean met Jud Hopkins and were married in 1952. Jean was a head nurse at Toronto Western Hospital until children Elizabeth and Jim were born. Jean was past president of the Willowdale Rotary Ann’s. Both Jean and Jud were avid bridge players and both enjoyed curling as members of the Bayview Country Club. After over 60 years in the same home in North Toronto and six years after Jud’s death, Jean decided to move to Delmanor Retirement residence in the same neighbourhood where she enjoyed her new friends and activities.
Visitation will begin at 12pm on Monday, January 13, 2025 at The Church of the Incarnation (15 Clairtrell Rd, North York). Jean’s life will be celebrated in a memorial service beginning at 1pm. Following the memorial service there will be a reception.
Jean's earthly remains will be laid to rest at Cobourg Union Cemetery in the spring.
