’l will always remember Joans friendliness to everyone she met her generosity and compassion.I always spoke to her each day and she always asked me if l had been out and about.We also gave her the first cat she owned ,a stray.Although very reluctant at first the cat subsequently became  my wee muff.I am so sorry l never got to say goodby.I saw her other friend Sheila this summer and looked at the lavender in her garden which Joan had given her.She remains in our thoughts and hearts.love as always Penny

My condolences to Joan's family and friends.  I was saddened to hear of Joan's passing.  Joan and I met when she adopted Ginger.  My dog and I stumbled upon a stray cat on a walk.  A mutual acquaintance mentioned she knew someone looking for a pet, and she introduced  us to Joan.  Joan  and the cat were immediately taken with one another.  Not only did Joan and Ginger become friends, but we did as well. 
She will be missed. 


My sympathies to Joan's family and friends. We worked together for many years at Amex and Joan was the consumate professional. She always had a smile on her face and could make us laugh over anything. I remember inviting Joan to play golf and it seems that the pants she wore weren't to "dress code". She spoke to the starter and somehow between her smile and her lovely brogue, the problem went away! 
That was Joan. 

My deepest sympathies to Joan’s family and friends.  I had the privilege of working for Joan at American Express for several years.  She was the Matriarch of Consumer Travel and it was an honour to work for her!

She commanded professionalism, integrity and teamwork with a wonderful sense of humour and wisdom.  

We were truly blessed to have her in our lives and she’ll be forever missed by all.  May Joan Rest In Peace.

Joan, you are gone, but thank you for all the wonderful memories you left behind in my head and in my heart.  I was so lucky to know you from my very first day of working at Amex Canada having recently arrived as a new immigrant.  Rest In Peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Joan for many years and Joan was indeed a true icon of integrity . She was a mentor to so many and I personally loved her straight forwardness and her dry sense of humour. She was a warm person who always had time for a colleague or a subordinate. She will be missed and will not be forgotten!  

I met Joan 12 years ago at the North York Seniors Center. We became friends and discovered a mutual liking for golf.  Over the years we had great fun at many different courses, and even 2 years ago Joan was pitching and putting at a golf driving range.  I have been to Scotland many times with my Aberdeen-raised husband, and we shared many stories of Scottish life.  Joan was a social bird, and an organizer of our monthly NYSC Diners Club. We kept in touch regularly, even with Covid.  Joan was a fun-loving, cheerful and very special friend, and I miss her so much.  Sorry I didn't have a chance to say goodbye.  Rest in peace, dear friend.

I will miss you Joan and so will many of your gardener friends that have known you for more than twenty years. Our gardens were side by side . We were close neighbours and friends for at least 22 years.  I will always remember your kindness to me. You often brought me a coffee and donut when you came to the garden. On many occasions at the end of the season you brought me a bottle of wine. We shared many humorous emails. We often sat together while you were watering your garden and discussed every topic under the sun. I learned a lot about Scotland. You often threatened to give up the garden and I always talked you into coming back. You will not be at the garden next year. God had other plans for you.  I will miss you dearly.  Every time I look into your garden I will remember all the wonderful moments and wave and wish you a good day.

Thank you for being such a caring and supportive Auntie. Ever since I moved over to America we shared many phone calls together. It was always comforting for me to have one of my Aunts on this side of the pond, especially in those early years. You knew first hand the challenges involved in  relocating from Scotland. I have always admired you and what you achieved in your life. I will cherish the memories of your visits to Williamsburg and particularly the laughs that you and my Mom would have together, especially over those late night games of scrabble. At times like this, I wish I had got to Toronto more and that you had came to Williamsburg more, but regardless I'm very thankful for the time we did have together. You will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. I thank God for giving me such a great Auntie. Love Andy

Joan's death has left a great hole in my heart and I will miss her greatly.  It was an honour and a privilege to be her friend.



Joan's dry wit and contagious laugh at every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner graces my memories all the way back to my childhood, as she has been a part of my extended family and besties with my mum for as long as I can remember.  She could always tell a good story, from her many travels to her gardening adventures to her funny cat.  It was her love for travel, genuine goodness of heart, and positive energy in life that has been an inspiration to me as I now have children of my own and I think of what model I'd like to be to them.

Joan was always part of my family dinners and parties. It was so wonderful to share holidays and special events with her.  She will be missed so much.

Memories of Joan came flooding back upon hearing the news of her passing. Joan's smile, her confidence and business knowledge, set the bar very high for many of us at Amex. 
Joan was a mentor to many and a leader by example for anyone who crossed her path. I am honoured to have known you Joan.

Although I only met Joan 5 years ago she had a big impact on my life.  She gave a loving home to Ginger, an abandoned cat (how I met her) and continued to teach me and share her allotment 'goodies'.

This summer we took our lunches outdoors.  Her bright smile and sense of humor was contagious. 

I look now at the lavender plant she gave me,  grateful for its beauty and her memory.

We have lost a legend and a pillar of Integrity and gusto!  I didnt know Joan personally but she has left me with an imprint of depth, dignity and intelligence from the time I knew her at Amex.  Sympathies to all those near and dear who will miss her deeply.  

My sympathy to Joan’s family. I also worked with Joan during her many years at Amex. She was an Icon in that institution. A Beacon of integrity, she was the leader that walked the walk and talked the talk. She often gave me guidance in many difficult situations and contributed to my success as a leader. 
I admired her greatly. There is a hole in one awaiting you on the greens of heaven, Joan!
