On June 3, 2012, at Sunnybrook Hospital, in his 77th year, Joe passed to his "fancy cloud" in the big sky. Always and forever loved by his partner, soulmate and wife, Karen. Much loved Dad to his wonderful daughters Alison Walters, Amanda (Andy) Mortimer, and Sarah (Ashley) Beales. Dear Grandpa Joe to Noah, Leah, Meghann, Lliam and Henry. Fondly remembered by his brother Michael (Joan) of Devon, U.K. Joe was born in Liskeard, Cornwall, U.K., July 25, 1935, second son to James Fernley (Fern) and Ilitta (Let) Gwendoline (Jones). Joe emigrated to Canada in 1957, after completing his B Sc. in mechanical engineering at University College, University of London, U.K., and began a successful 36-year career at Ontario Hydro, where he was recognized as a most competent engineer, an inspirational leader and an ethical business executive. Joe's skills and talents, combined with his appreciation of music, and his love for the piano, gave us a uniquely gifted man, blending both rationality and intuition, competence and compassion, sociability and his need for privacy. He remained proud of his Cornish roots and heritage, but was a true, loyal and committed Canadian. This gentle man is loved and admired, and will be deeply and forever missed. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 2-4:30 & 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 11 am in the R. S. Kane Chapel. Interment York Cemetery.
