

Karen Frances-passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill, Ontario, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 48 years. Karen is survived by her daughter Maria, her parents Austin and Josephine, her brother Malcolm(May Griffith) and sister Sandra(Kevin Burek), and nieces and nephew Meagan, Brigitte, Marisa and Kaelen. A woman with both academic and artistic talents in abundance, Karen held degrees in engineering and psychology from the University of Waterloo. With a strong affinity for rural living, she and her father converted an old barn into her pottery studio on her property outside Belleville, Ontario. Pottery was her passion amongst all the arts she pursued. Karen had a long career at Nortel where she made many friends. It was, however, her greatest joy when she became a mother to Maria. Friends may call on Monday, January 18, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church (3220 Bayview Avenue). Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation(HPB Fund)in memory of Karen or Hill House Hospice.
