Karen Kathleen McMahon

Karen died peacefully at home with her family by her side on April 8, 2022 after a courageous battle with metastatic melenoma . She is survived by her husband of 45 years Dan and daughters Katie and Jennifer, son-in-law Stephen Jack and granddaughter Brianna.

She will be sadly missed by her sister Linda McKendry and dear friend Susan Bowen both of whom shared many happy memories of attending many live theatre performances over the years.

Karen was a beautiful woman in mind and spirit who gave unhesitantly and without reserve to her family, friends and students. She took that extra time and effort to make sure that in any of her endeavours she gave 100% to bring about the best possible result.

She was a teacher for more than 35 years at Saint Matthias Catholic school in North York. She taught in various capacities but particularly enjoyed her time spent teaching Special Education.She was always the one to help that student that needed a little extra help and encouragement. She was known to quietly ensure that all students could participate in extracurricular field trips even though funds did not appear to be available.

Karen was an enthusiastic golfer and enjoyed playing with her family and sister Linda. She regularly was able to reach the score of 100 or more. The actual score was dependent upon the use of her foot wedge and the number of ”reloads “that were necessary for any number of reasons . She thoroughly enjoyed her yearly family trips to Florida to play golf and shop with her sister Linda.

Karen was one of the great ones that many had the pleasure of knowing. She will be remembered by her unmatched kindness and generosity that she displayed throughout all of her life.

A visitation will be held at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill on Tuesday April 12, 2022 from 2-5pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gabriel’s Passionist Parish, 670 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto on Wednesday April 13, 2022 at 10am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill.
