Kauno Puiras

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Kauno Rikhart Puiras. On Monday, December 9, 2019, he peacefully slipped from this world into the next. He was surrounded by family and was heard greeting his Heavenly Father and wife just before he breathed his final breath. Kauno was born in Kukonkylä, Finland on May 31, 1932. He was married to Eila Puiras (predeceased) for more than 61 years.

Loving father of Rauno Puiras and his wife Marianne, Leena Verk and her husband Marty, Kauko Puiras and his wife Lynn, Pauli Puiras and his wife Sari, Minna Puiras and Ignatius Machado, and Mirjam McLachlan and her husband Jeff. He was the proud grandfather of Joseph Puiras (Leslie), Sarah Eyre (Jay), Jacob Puiras (Tamsyn), Sophia Puiras, Joshua Verk, Miia Naugler (Ted), Kaleb Verk (Tiffany), Avi Verk, Elli Verk (Stephen), Izaaq Verk (Ophelia), Kalle Puiras (Ortal), Kristi Van Spall (Sean), Luke Puiras (Stefanie), Kyle Puiras, Laura Puiras, Liisa Puiras, Kayla, Simon, Jonah, Ethan, Ruth-Anna, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Timothy, Jonathan, Matthew, and Micah McLachlan. Great-grandfather of Liam, Lucy, Alice, Hannah, Alexia, Aiden, Declan, Lynkon, Titus, Dominik, Kaiden, Anastasia, Alexis, Duncan, Odin, and Lilja.

He was predeceased by his parents Väinö and Anna Puiras and his brother Kalle. Remembered by family and friends in Finland and Canada.

He was a well-respected and loved member of the Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church. He received much joy in his life from time spent with family, near and far. He was a cherished friend and many were blessed by his light-heartedness.

While we are sad to be here without him, we know how he longed to be in his eternal home. We celebrate with him and ask for your prayers as we wrestle with grief and joy during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the Puiras family asks that donations be made to the Hannah Lake Bible Centre in Sudbury, Ontario.
