After a battle with cancer, Ken passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Born and raised in Liverpool, England, the second of two children, he emigrated to Canada in 1956. His wife Veronica (Ve) and son Geoff followed soon after to start a new adventure together. They settled in Willowdale and proceeded to build their family. Ken was the proud father of four children: Geoff, Linda, Alan, and Gina who grew up in a loving family overseen by their beloved father who filled their worlds with wisdom, laughter, and many sporting activities. His two abiding joys in life were his family and Liverpool FC. He was on the reserve team in the early 1950s, proudly played at Anfield on several occasions, and carried his passion for soccer with him to Canada, playing well into his 60s. He was integral in the building of soccer pitches along the Hydro fields in North York, and actively supported Armourdale Soccer Club. Ken had an acute, analytical mind and retained a broad knowledge of many things. A voracious reader and avid crossword player, he instilled in his family the importance lifelong learning.
Ken was a much loved father-in-law to Lori, John, Joy and Chris. His grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Eric and Kevin (Geoff and Lori), Colin and Cameron (Linda and John), and Charlotte and Colin, (Gina and Chris) were a source of great pride, and he was delighted at the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Marcus, in 2011, and Caius and Fiona in 2017. Ken is predeceased by wife Veronica, parents Edna and John, and brother Jack.
The family would like to thank Dr. C. K. Chung for his care and support in the past few months and for the wonderful staff at Hill House Hospice. Additionally, the family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the kindness of friends and neighbours. A private funeral service will be held for the family. For those that wish to do so, donations may be made to Hill House Hospice (36 Wright St, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 4A1) in Ken’s name. Condolences may be offered at www.rskane.ca. You’ll never walk alone, Dad.
