

Cavaliere Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana - In his 91st year. Loving husband of Maria Luisa since October of 1952. Pre-deceased in 1981 by his eldest son Dr. Giacomo d'Ambrosio(Elaine). Proud father of Luigi and Elvira and loving grandfather of Aaron. Survived by his dear sister Tina. Predeceased by his parents Luigi d'Ambrosio (1944) and Elvira Aquilino (1941), sister Rosa (1996) and brothers Mario (1974) and Carlo (2002). Proud zio to many nieces and nephews and their families, especially PierLuigi d'Ambrosio in Rome, Giovanni d'Ambrosio in Quito, Bruno Salvoni in Miami, Massimiliano Salvoni in Rome and Clara (Salvoni) Young in Colorado Springs. Manlio outlived many first cousins from his mother's large family, but is survived by Antoinette (Aquilino) Goffigan in Atlanta, Guglielma (Ginanneschi) Tosti in Rome, Adriana (Ciaravolo) Demarco in Cranston, Rhode Island, and Elvira (Aquilino) Mencarini in Milan. Since moving to Canada from Italy, Manlio maintained a close relationship with his mother's cousin Orlandina (Maselli) Astrella (2005) and her children Vito and Giuseppe and families, and Orlandina's brother Antonio Maselli (1991) and his children Concettina (Tina) Pica (2002) and Vito Maselli and families. Manlio will be fondly remembered and missed by Brian and many friends and family. He was a pillar of Toronto's Italian Canadian community and an extraordinary supporter of those in need. He understood the importance of funding for community organizations to enable them to carry on their important work. He founded and served as president of the Canadian Italian Development Association to provide a source of financial support for the development of other community organizations. Among other volunteer positions, Manlio served as President of the National Congress of Italian Canadians (Ontario Region), President of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Toronto and President of the Società de Nojantri, a social club for people from Rome. Manlio also helped to create and served on the board of the Iacobucci Centre for Italian Canadian Studies at the University of Toronto, which is dedicated to preparing an archive of the Italian Canadian experience. Friends will be received at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto M2M 3W9 on Friday October 19th 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday October 20th at St. Paschal Baylon Church, 92 Steeles Avenue West, Thornhill L4J 1A1. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill L3T 2C7.
