Marie is survived by her children Anthony (Diane Simpson), James (Sandra Bosnar-Dale), Matthew (Kate Thurston-Dale), Nancy (David Grimmond), and Jessica (Cal Brunker), her cherished grandchildren Madeleine, Emma, Thomas, William, Finn, Zara, Oliver, Myles, Margot, and Emmett, and members of the extended Quinlan family. Marie rejoins in eternal life her beloved husband of 48 years John Byron Dale (d. 2014), and her parents Helen (nee Langley, d. 1995) and Michael (d. 1968).
Born and raised in west Toronto as the eldest of eight children, Marie excelled at sports and academics. Along the way, she developed an independent, can-do attitude, forging her own path which included a solo move to Montreal as a young 20 something. Over the next few years she would meet the love of her life John, telling her mother, “Today I met the man I’m going to marry.” Together they would travel the world, building a busy and loving home no matter where John’s work took them. Marie is remembered fondly by her children for her fierce loyalty, her love of a good cup of tea, and her unique take on time management. All of her children have inherited her love of the long goodbye.
Marie cared deeply for her community, and poured herself into the causes and organisations she believed in. An avid singer, she was a dedicated member of the Blessed Trinity choir. Marie also recognised the importance of hospice work, and for two decades volunteered with Hope House Community Hospice (formerly Hospice King-Aurora), and Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill.
Marie’s passions included travelling (especially to Rome), lunching with friends, driving her Saab convertible with the top down, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays, and surrounding herself with her large, chaotic, and loving family, including her grandpuppies. She will be hugely missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express their deep thanks to the amazing healthcare workers at Dorothy Ley Hospice and St. Joseph’s Health Centre, the staff of Delmanor Prince Edward, and to Marie’s beloved caregiver Tenzin.
Visitation will take place on Thursday April 9 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, Thornhill Chapel at 8088 Yonge St Thornhill, and on Friday April 10 at 10:30am at Blessed Trinity Parish Church, 3220 Bayview Ave. Funeral mass will follow at 11:30am. Reception afterwards in the Church Hall. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dorothy Ley Hospice (https://dlhospice.org/) would be appreciated.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her.
