We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Boudreau, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who passed away on July 1, 2023 at the age of 76.
In the end, Mary’s heart began failing and those who knew and loved her, know how big her heart was.
She passed away peacefully at The Houses of Providence in Scarborough surrounded by family.
Mary was born on October 8, 1946, in Toronto, Ontario as the second oldest of 6 siblings. With her mother passing away at a young age, she took on the responsibility to help raise her siblings and take care of the household. As with everything in her life, she inevitably rose to the challenge.
She later graduated North Toronto Collegiate Institute in 1964. Soon after, she fell in love and married Philip John Boudreau (pre-deceased 1995) on August 15, 1964. He was a handsome, young French-Canadian boy she happened upon on a walk while cottaging at Lake Simcoe. The rest was history. They raised three sons, Roderick, Warren and Jeremy and watched them grow into husbands to Tania, Jennie and Amandine and fathers to her 7 grandchildren, Amber, Brianna, Chloe, Beau, Leo, Philippe and Sébastien.
Mary had a career spanning many different roles and was the consummate salesperson. Known for her charm and her charisma, those who knew her would say she had the uncanny ability to get what she wanted.Mary was active in her community and always loved people, especially children. She spent countless hours volunteering with Sparks and Girl Guides of Canada and she gave much of her time to the church.
Mary always took the time for self care and up until her last days would always be looking her very best. She also took the time to listen to people’s stories and made it a point to remember the important details of their lives. She made many lifelong friends, including Marion Gervais who has always been by her side and who cared for her attentively through the years and into her final hours.
Mary made friends everywhere she went, thanks to her charm and witty sense of humour. She was also a wonderful cook and baker. Her doors were always open for a home-cooked meal and a delicious pie. She spent time living in North York, Richmond Hill, Peterborough and Scarborough. She loved crafts, knitting as well as celebrating and decorating her home for every occasion. Her room at the Houses of Providence was no exception.
Mary’s memory will live on in her children, grandchildren and siblings, Theresa and Michael, and she will join her husband Philip and her siblings Paul, Pat and Irene in a better place.
Mary’s family and friends would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the entire Team at The Houses of Providence. The care, love and attention Mary received there has been second to none.Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Houses of Providence in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
A small private memorial service will be held for immediate family in the coming days.
Rest in peace Mary, We Love You Always.
Eulogy given at Mary Boudreau's service
"Dear friends and loved ones,
Thank you for being here today as we gather to remember and honor Mary.
My name is Michael Lenhardt, but most people call me Mike.
It means a lot to have Mary's three children, Warren, Rod, and Jeramy, here with us today.
Mary was born on October 8, 1946, while I, Michael, was born on October 1, 1939.
It's interesting to reflect on how our paths intertwined throughout our lives.
Mary's father, Bill Lenhardt, bravely served in the Canadian army overseas for five years, contributing to the fight against the German Nazis. After his return to Canada, Mary came into this world, bringing joy to our family.
Mary and I grew up together under the care of our parents on Glen Forest Road before moving to Hillsdale Avenue. As part of my responsibilities, I used to accompany Mary to Saint Monica's school every day.
I kindly ask that you all keep Mary in your prayers, cherishing the memories we shared.
Mary found solace in her room at Providence Villa Hospital, where she battled pain until her passing, finding peace at Providence.
Let's take a moment to acknowledge Mary's accomplishments, including her marriage to Philip Boudreau, who is no longer with us, and the birth of their three sons.
Unfortunately, Mary's mother, Florence Kelly/Lenhardt, passed away on June 9, 1961, leaving Mary at a young age. Mary, along with her siblings, Paul, Irene, and Theresa, continued to live with Bill Lenhardt on Hillsdale Avenue. At that time, Theresa was merely six years old, and Mary was just a young child herself.
In closing, I would like to express my heartfelt wishes for all of Mary's friends. May you find comfort in knowing that Mary is now content in heaven. Remember the positive moments you shared with her.
I have fond memories of going home for lunch together. We had an hour and a half break, and during that time, Mary and I would often stop to buy penny candies, like Mary Black Balls, and other treats. Occasionally, we would treat ourselves to takeout french fries to enjoy on our way home, or we would splurge on ice cream cones for just five cents.
To my dear sister, Mary, I want you to know that I will always love you, and I am eternally grateful for the time we spent together in this life.
May God bless your soul, Mary, and may you find eternal rest and peace with Jesus.
Sincerely, Michael"]
