Michael passed away peacefully on August 22, 2022, at his home in Gibson Long Term Care Residence. Michael was born in Toronto on September 13th, 1947, to Ernest and Constance (Murrell) Orr. From an early age, Michael loved to read and write and made a long-standing career out of it. He wrote for many companies as well as writing several unpublished novels. Michael’s love of reading lead to many hours spent browsing and socializing in the local library which he enjoyed very much. Passionate about movies, Michael had an extensive collection of VHS tapes and in his younger years enjoyed going down to the movies often on his own, or with his daughter. Michael was an intelligent man who took delight in answering most Jeopardy questions correctly. He could talk for hours on any subject and enjoyed meeting family members for coffee to do so. He loved his family, cats, Coronation Street, old Hollywood, and Chapman’s ice cream with a generous helping of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. He is survived by his daughter Diana (Joseph) and was the proud grandad of Benjamin (8) and Thomas (3). Michael is predeceased by his mother (1997) and father (2007), and brother Stephen (1983). Michael is survived by his sisters Wendy (Nestor), Isabel, and Jane (Bob). The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Gibson Long Term Care Residence for their compassionate care in Michael’s final years. A small memorial gathering will take place on Tuesday August 30th, 2022, from 11-1 at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral home in Thornhill. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations to be made to the LOFT Community Service program (loftcs.org), specifically for the St. Anne’s Place and John Gibson House.
